Elsinore in the 20th century

(Helsingør, Denmark)

Kronborg castle has been the home of the Danish Maritime Museum since 1915 and this takes up most of the first floor of the castle. The museum covers Danish shipping from the 15th century and covers the sound tolls, the Napoleonic wars, the China trade and Denmark's brief colonisation period in India (and the Danish West Indies). There are many ship models (and photographs in the archive of almost every Danish ship from 1880). Among the models can be seen ships built in Dundee for Danish companies such as the 466 ton Niord, built by Gourlay in 1866.
