Elsinore in the 17th century

The administration of the Sound Toll at Elsinore had become, to Scottish eyes, quite corrupt by the 17th century. Nevertheless, according to Thomas Riis, over 80% of Scottish trade to the Baltic favoured the Sound route over the Belt at this time. The first picture shows the narrow street where the Sound Toll office was located.
