J O F Morris
St Andrews
Jimmy was Old Tom Morris's "other" son and, sadly, like brother Tommy, died prematurely, after many illnesses, in 1906, once again survived by his father. His initials "J O F" derived from the good amateur and moving force behind the Open Championship, J O Fairlie, who brought Old Tom to Prestwick as "keeper of the green" and with whom Tom formed a strong friendship. J O F Morris had several top ten finishes in the Open Championship in the 1870s and 1880s and served as the foreman in the Morris clubmaking shop.
